Hot showers and Thai food

Reviewed 20 Mar 2016

We were a group of four couples staying at the lodge joined by one other couple staying locally, for the purpose of cycling The Old Coach Road cycleway from Ohakune to Horopito and return. The rooms were very tidy and clean, but the best part was the blasting hot showers. When we arrived around 10.00pm it was freezing cold outside, but we were greeted by rooms that were warmed from a thermostatically controlled wall heater. To then have a steaming hot shower with excellent water pressure was very much appreciated after our four and a half hour trip from the Bay of Plenty. The lodge includes a restaurant, that served very tasty Thai food for the evening meal, again much appreciated after five hours of strenuous cycling The Old Coach Rd. The host was very friendly and informative and the lodge included a large shed where our bikes could be safely stored away. The lodge is situated right in the town centre within a few hundred meters of the local shops, cafes and other restaurants. If we had stayed longer we would have sampled these other restaurants as well, however it was very convenient to use the lodge restaurant and particularly suitable for a group of our size where we could sit around the long dining table. The restaurant is licensed and the food hot (temperature), tasty and efficiently served. We had a great time.

All You Need

Recently we spent two nights at this motel and stayed in the studio accommodation. We found the room clean and the bed very comfortable. It was great to have the kitchen facilities. We arrived late in the evening and found the hosts Scott and Dara had left the heater on which was lovely as it was a very cold night. On Saturday night we had a meal at the Thai Restaurant which is part of the Alpine complex. We were very happy with our meals and were very tasty. We were able to store our bikes overnight in their large storage area for security. All the staff were very friendly. If we were to go back to do more bike rides we would certainly stay there again.
